A Grand Celebration: Mr. and Mrs. Slater’s Wedding at the Banqueting Suite

Right in the heart of Birmingham, the Council House stands as an architectural gem. Surrounded by other iconic landmarks such as the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Town Hall, and the beloved ‘Floozie in the Jacuzzi’ fountain, it is a striking sight from the outside. However, once you step through its grand doors, it becomes even more breathtaking. On a sunny Saturday at the end of March, this historic venue played host to the beautiful wedding of Rachel and Jack Slater, a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

The morning began at The Grand Hotel, where Rachel prepared for her big day alongside her bridal party. The atmosphere, I'm sure, was one of excitement and joy as hair and makeup were expertly applied, and final touches were made to her stunning bridal look. I joined them later at the Council House an hour before the ceremony to capture the final preparations, the delicate details, and the quiet anticipation of what was to come.

One of the most touching moments of the day was Rachel’s first look with her father. As she revealed her bridal ensemble to him, he smiled with joy. Knowing that her father is unwell made this moment all the more poignant, and it was a privilege to capture such a heartfelt exchange between them. Meanwhile, Jack was greeting guests, sharing handshakes, hugs, and laughter with friends and family. His groomsmen provided some much-needed comic relief, helping to settle his nerves as he waited at the end of the aisle.

As the ceremony began, the atmosphere was filled with emotion. Jack’s nerves turned to sheer joy as he saw Rachel walking arm in arm with her father. The sight of her brought tears to many eyes, and the love in the room was clear. The ceremony was short yet deeply meaningful, a true reflection of the couple’s love story.

Following the ceremony, we stepped outside into the sunshine for the confetti photo, which was a vibrant and joyful moment. With 150 guests gathered on the grand steps of the Council House, we captured a spectacular group photo with the historic building as the perfect backdrop. Moving back inside, we focused on more intimate and fun group photos, making sure to document the connections and genuine happiness shared between the couple and their loved ones.

Rachel and Jack chose to remain indoors for their couple portraits, making use of the Council House’s stunning glass corridor and grand staircase. The soft, natural light filtering through the windows created a warm, romantic atmosphere, perfect for capturing their newlywed glow. One of their young sons was an unexpected but delightful little assistant, adding an extra touch of sweetness to the session.

As the evening approached, Rachel and Jack had one last surprise waiting for them. Their friends had secretly arranged a limo to whisk them away to their reception in style, a final touch to what had already been a magical day. The look of surprise and delight on their faces was priceless, and it was the perfect way to set the tone for an evening of celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Slater’s wedding at the Banqueting Suite in the Birmingham Council House was a lot of fun. The grandeur of the venue, the love and joy shared by all, and the thoughtful details made it a day to remember. A unique and stunning location for a truly beautiful couple and their wonderful family—this was a wedding that will be cherished forever.
